Ángeles Ruiz was born in Barcelona, where she lives with her husband, also a talented illustrator and daughter, her source of inspiration and toughest critic. Born into a big family who loves the arts, Ángeles always felt supported. Her mom was an artist who painted landscapes on canvas. She dearly remembers playing and painting in her mom’s studio surrounded by paint brushes and paint tubes. |
When she was 5, the reading workshop was her most favorite subject at school. It is where her passion for fairy tales and picture books started. She has a Fine Arts and Interior Design degree from Escola de la Llotja Art School in Barcelona. She started her professional career in illustration after being selected in Bologna Children’s Book Fair. Afterwards, she published her first book as author/illustrator with Edition Gradnir,(France). She probably would have been an architect if she is not an illustrator. When not illustrating, she loves to explore nature, go to the library, and enjoy spending time with her family.
Below are some of her recent and popular projects, The Lost Kitten by Leyla Torres (Reycraft Books), Curial i Güelfa (Barcanova), La cigala i la formiga by Salvador Comelles (Cruïlla), Abecedari poètic by Salvador Comelles (Cruilla), La iaia és una segrestadora by Elisabet Roig Cañadas (Edicions Baula), La desaparició d’en Sardina by Jordi Larrégola (BAULA), Sant Jordi by Núria Font i Ferré (Cruïlla), L'arbre de la canyella by Anna Cabeza Gutés (Cruïlla) and Les banyes d'en Cucarell by Caterina Valriu (Cruïlla).
