Born in Hong Kong, Donald grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area after moving there as a child. Years of drawing doodles in school along with a love of comic books led him to study illustration at the California College of the Arts. While in school, he developed various styles ranging from caricatures to editorial. He has since worked mainly in portraiture and freelance illustration. Currently, his favorite media is colored pencils over acrylic, although he also finds working with watercolors very liberating. Donald continues to reside and "doodle" in the San Francisco Bay Area. Below are his most recent picture books, I Can Read!: A Fiona the Hippo Book series (Zonderkidz), Holly Wakes Early by Kimberly Long Cockroft (Cricket Media), The Yummy Up Bakery by Taylor Hirsch (Independently published), Happy to be Blu by Sheetal Tahilramani, Champion Monsters by Lindsey Womack (Champion Monster Projects, LLC), The Memoirs of Winthrop Little: Operation Birthday Cake interactive book App, I Love You, Daddy & Mommy by Dandi Daley Mackall (Standard Publishing), A Dog's Life by Caroline R. Sherman (Amazon Children's Publishing), Shaggy Dogs, Waggy Dogs by Patricia Hubbell, She Sells Seashells and Other Tricky Tongue Twisters and You're Toast and Other Metaphors We Adore both written by Nancy Loewen (Picture Window Books). Principal Fred Won't Go to Bed by Carolyn Crimi (Marshall Cavendish), J is for Jack-O'-Lantern by Brennan-Nelson and Denise (Sleeping Bear Press), and Change-up: Baseball by Gene Fehler (Clarion Books).
