Virginia Allyn began her illustration career at the age of five with a multi-colored drawing of birds that was published in the local paper. Seeking artistic challenges, she moved on to creating hand drawn animated movies on calculator paper rolls which were projected on a wall underneath her parent's living room stairs (to wide neighborhood acclaim). Unfortunately, Disney lacked her artistic vision and did not come calling so she stuck to manila paper and crayons and a dream of being a famous colorist when she grew up. Forty years and many stubs of midnight blue later, she has illustrated multiple trade and educational books internationally with a specialty in classic nursery tales. Her recent projects include Little Red Hen (Ladybird), The Three Little Pigs (Ladybird), The Gingerbread Man (Ladybird), and The Elves and the Shoemaker (Ladybird). Virginia lives in sunny Florida with a red-headed snippet, the meanest cow kitty in the West, and lots of manila paper. She enjoys collecting children's books, listening to audio books while drawing, and eating vegetables (except peas).
