Rob likes to reminisce about the simple life he had as a child growing up in Cheshire, when his biggest worry was whether to have fish fingers or Alphabetti Spaghetti for tea. The faces, colors and shapes from that time are a present-day inspiration for his artwork. His career has led quite a varied course, beginning with a degree in Illustration from Exeter. Following that, he worked for several years in a very commercial style and gained a solid reputation for his highly realistic paintings, while at the same time experimenting with different themes and techniques. In recent years he has moved into a completely different, warmer and more individual style. He finds that this new approach gives him both a sense of creative freedom and the joy of something simple in a complex world. At Right are two of his most recent picture books, Peek-A-Boo, I See Who? by Steve Elkins (Thomas Nelson, Inc.) and The Bridge Is Up!, by Babs Bell (HarperCollins).
