John's formal training was not in illustration, but rather theology, which he received at Cambridge University. However, he always loved drawing, and one of his early jobs was as a newspaper cartoonist. But he says that he really learned to draw when he worked at the British Museum, drawing oriental objects to scale. In his children's books illustrations, he is particularly inspired by what he calls "the gooniness" of young school children. John and his family divide their time between Brighton, England and Long Island, New York.|
Shown below are some of his recent projects, Ready to Read Series all written by Marion Dane Bauer (Simon Spotlight), The Best Easter Prize by Kristina Evans Collier (Cartwheel Books), and The Flower Girl & The Ring Bearer by Laura Godwin (Hyperion).
